KEBUMEN: School Committee Plays a Prominent Role
Over the past two years the role of the SDN 2 Wonokriyo Gombong school committee has increased considerably. Their sense of responsibility and ownership of their schools is a very high and there is no longer an invisible dividing wall between the school and the community.
This is shown by various activities which they now undertake. School committee members have been teaching computers regularly, making proposals for new classrooms, standing in for teachers who are attending meetings, in drawing up the school budget, running extracurricular activities and finally organizing and teaching students to carry out their prayers.
This is the result of knowledge gained from MBE being applied in the field. Compact, transparent and professional has become the motto of SDN 2 Wonokriyo Gombong, as it makes progress. The program of school activities has been drawn up together with the committee, teachers, community members and other stakeholders and become part of the school development plan, which supports the school's vision and mission statements.
Three things have taken place at SDN 2 Wonokriyo which has increased the confidence of stakeholders in the school. The school principal made a report at a plenary meeting to discuss the school budget on 18 September 2006, which was well received by those present. Among the stakeholders invited was the family of Bpk Triyogo, a member of the community who is also a successful businessman.
He offered to donate 59 copies of an Islamic holy book for the children to read in the mornings, as part of the program to increase the children's religious awareness. There was also Bpk Tukiman, who has a garment making business but does not have a child at SDN 2 Wonokriyo.

District Facilitators as the Engine of Progress
Photographs of the teams of facilitators from all the MBE districts are included on the center pages of this edition. The teams were chosen from teachers, school principals and supervisors. They have been trained 3 or 4 times to carry out school training in School Based Management (SBM), Community Participation and PAKEM.
As well as training the teachers and other stakeholders, they also do mentoring with the teachers in class to help them develop good lessons. As well as supporting the MBE partner schools, they have also developed a similar program in other schools in the district. Some of them have also been invited to train schools in other districts, even in non MBE districts in Kalimantan, Nias, Maluku, Aceh and West Sumatera.

After he was given a slip of paper on which to write his reflections about the work of the school, he wrote the following:
"I would like to ask permission to pay Rp.100,000.- each month to support the 19 poor children in the school. I will make the payments on the tenth of every month. Thank you."

We're very proud and happy about Bpk Tukiman's concern, even though he does not have any children or relations at SDN 2 Wonokriyo. We have also used his garments making business as a learning resource. We would like to convey our gratitude to all stakeholders who support our school program, we hope for a better tomorrow.
